1971 was in my opinion the greatest year in music history, there were so many classic rock & roll albums out plus countless songs that you probably couldn’t go an hour listening to a classic rock or oldies station without hearing a song from that year. This being the 50th anniversary of that seminal year, I’m going to do a special podcast on the music that was released in 1971. These were some of the great albums that came out.
David Bowie | Hunky Dory |
Led Zeppelin | IV |
Rolling Stones | Sticky Fingers |
The Who | Who’s Next |
Rod Stewart | Every Picture Tells A Story |
Carole King | Tapestry |
Marvin Gaye | What’s Going On |
John Lennon | Imagine |
T-Rex | Electric Warrior |
Al Green | Gets Next To You |
Janis Joplin | Pearl |
Sly & The Family Stone | There’s A Riot Going On |
Jethro Tull | Aqualung |
The Doors | L.A. Woman |
Yes | The Yes Album |
Elton John | Madman Across The Water |
Joni Mitchell | Blue |
Cat Stevens | Teaser & The Firecat |
Genesis | Nursery Cryme |
Bill Withers | Just As I Am |
Isaac Hayes | Shaft |
Alice Cooper | Killer |
Faces | A Nod is As Good As a Wink to a Blind Horse |
There were also some great songs that came out like American Pie, You Are Everything, and The Carpenters version of Superstar.
I’m looking for help with this show, if you’d like to contribute something about an album or song that came out, I’d love to hear about it. You can either write about something that came out in 1971 or if you want to come on the podcast, and talk about an album or song, I’d love to hear from you!
